LA County Granted A 6-year-old Child A License To Own A Unicorn!

As kids, we all dream amazing dreams. But did you ever dream of having a unicorn as a pet? Recently, one 6-year-old girl from Los Angeles County did, and she wrote a letter to the authorities asking permission to keep one in her backyard. And what happened next melted everyone’s hearts.

LA County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) received a letter.

Madeline is a sweet and thoughtful girl who loves animals. She wanted to have a unicorn as a pet, but she knew it was not an ordinary animal. She also knew she had to be responsible and respectful of the rules.

She then submitted a handwritten letter to the DACC asking permission to keep a unicorn in her backyard if she could find one. Madeline wrote in the letter that, dear LA County, she would like your approval to have a unicorn in her backyard if she can find one. And she said, please send her a letter in response.

The heartwarming reaction by DACC

The DACC was touched by Madeline’s letter and decided to grant her request. They issued her a preapproved unicorn license with some conditions. The license letter stated that Madeline must:

  • Give her pet unicorn regular access to sunlight, moonbeams, and rainbows
  • Feed it watermelon once a week, one of its favorite treats
  • Polish its horn at least once a month with a soft cloth
  • Use only nontoxic and biodegradable sparkles or glitter on the unicorn
  • Comply with Title 10 of the Los Angeles County Code, which governs animal control and health

The DACC also sent Madeline a heart-shaped license tag and a plush unicorn with a permanent license tag on its collar. They explained that unicorns are very rare to find, so they wanted to give her something to look after while she continued her search.

The incident went viral, and people appraised Madeline

On Tuesday, the DACC shared Madeline’s letter, the license, and the stuffed unicorn on their social media accounts. They praised Madeline as an exemplary young person who thoughtfully considered the requirements of providing a loving home to animals.

In the post, they stated that it was always gratifying to hear from young people who carefully consider the requirements of giving animals a loving home. They applauded Madeline for using good judgment to retain a unicorn in Los Angeles County and for doing so in advance. As such, they issued her a preapproved unicorn license. They said thank you, Madeline, for reaching out to their department. Why yes – they do license unicorns.
